This module provides practical training in shell and tube heat exchanger thermal design using HTRI-based engineering methods. Participants learn how to prepare process data, define exchanger geometry, select tube and shell configurations, and evaluate thermal performance. The course explains important design factors such as heat transfer coefficient, pressure drop, fouling allowance, tube velocity, baffle arrangement, vibration risk, and mechanical design limitations. Participants also learn how to perform rating calculations for existing exchangers and how to identify operational problems such as insufficient heat transfer, excessive pressure drop, or poor flow distribution.

The module uses real engineering examples to connect software results with practical design decisions. It is suitable for process engineers, heat transfer specialists, mechanical engineers, and technical professionals working with exchanger design, operation, or troubleshooting.
